A start-up founded in 2013, Optulink brings together CEO Bruce Peterson and COO Brian McConnell. Both bring decades of experience in telecom networks.
Optulink applies unique optimization algorithms to optimize mobile voice. Optulink has initiated 4 patents for Optulink in IP flow-based optimization triggers, VoLTE optimization and WCDMA voice optimization, which Peterson co-invented.
Before starting Optulink, Peterson was founder and CEO of Velocent Systems. Its unique mobile data monitoring system is used in 4G LTE networks in Japan. Velocent’s sales doubled for 3 consecutive years before he sold the company.
Peterson’s previous experience includes business development and product management for Lucent Technology, where he co-founded the cooperative Innovations team to fill gaps in the Lucent portfolio, including licensing a probe interface that launched the probe industry. He also was product manager for the next-generation UMTS packet core.
He was founder and CEO of VoiceCue, which provided an enhanced services platform to provide voice dialing, directory assistance call completion and pre-paid billing services for mobile operators such as New Zealand Telecom, Alltel and Cellular One Chicago.
Peterson holds a B.S. in business administration from Drake University.
Before joining Optulink, McConnell was vice president and general manager of a $200 million division of Tellabs. As division leader, he successfully managed profit and loss, and developed 4G mobile packet gateway and Voice Quality Enhancement solutions. He led product management and marketing to capture more than a 70% market share in a highly competitive market segment.
McConnell held a series of increasingly responsible roles at Tellabs. He served as vice president of marketing for the transport solutions group at Tellabs. In that role, he led all global marketing, product management and sales support for a product line that grew to over $1 billion in annual revenue. He identified new market opportunities, developed a scope of work, developed solution architecture and built teams in low-cost geographies to lower R&D costs. That team successfully launched new products in less than 12 months.
He successfully managed the life cycle of a product with more than a $10 billion installed base. He has led engineering teams of 20 to 250 engineers and program managers, with a focus on delivering new products quickly.
McConnell holds an MBA from the Illinois Institute of Technology and a B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois.
Previously, D’Agostino was senior product line manager for Alcatel-Lucent, defining and managing LTE and WCDMA strategy and roadmaps for self-organizing networks (SON) and operational excellence. With his team he reduced network design operating expenses and increased Quality of Service with commercial deployment of multi-technology SON features. He also successfully led co-creation of advanced SON solutions and was granted a co-invented patent.
Earlier at Alcatel-Lucent, he held a series of increasingly responsible roles, including product line management for the 3G Radio Network Controller (RNC) and OA&M. He was key in defining and implementing a convergence strategy to rationalize products, as a result of M&As (Alcatel, Lucent Technologies and Nortel), reducing costs and protecting customers. He delivered best-in-class network performance by improving challenging traffic profiles, including the impact of AT&T’s Apple iPhone first release and deployment.
D’Agostino has also served as a research scientist at Hewlett-Packard Labs and a research fellow in the augmented reality group of Percro Lab.
He holds an MBA from the University of Warwick and an MSc in Computer Science from the University of Pisa.
